Russian Orthodox icons forming a wedding pair: the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God

The icon of the Savior depicts the Gospel scene known as the "Agony in the Garden"

(Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane).

Moscow, 1860 (date on the *oklads*). Oil painting on wood (in the Academic style);

the reverse sides are covered with fabric. Both icons feature *oklads* crafted by the

same master; they are made of silver with rich chasing, engraving, and gilding.

The halos, created using openwork chasing, are decorated with rhinestones, pearls,

and applied monograms. Hallmarks present: Moscow city mark; assay master’s mark

I.A. (Ivan Avdeev, No. 2110 P.L.); silver fineness mark "84";

maker’s mark V.S. (Vasily Semenov, No. 2340 P.L.).

in the second half of the 19th century. In the early 20th century, the business was

continued by his daughter, Maria Vasilievna; her works rank alongside those of

Russia's finest jewelers, such as Fabergé, Ovchinnikov, and Khlebnikov.

minor scratches on the icon covers along the edges; the covers are free of defects,

and the original gilding is in very good condition.

Москва, 1860 г . (дата на окладах). Живопись маслом по дереву (в академической манере);

пробирного мастера И.А. (Иван Авдеев, № 2110 П. Л.); клеймо пробы серебра «84»;
