Russian Bronze Icon: THREE BAR CROSS | 1155

Beginning of 19th century, cast brass. A beautiful cross with God the Father depicted on finial above dove and angels. Cross bar displays a post on each side surmounted by a seraphim head. A smaller 3 bar cross with corpus, is set into the larger. Reverse completely covered with Slavonic inscription which starts out with the standard. “The cross is the protector etc., plus a lengthy text detailing the acts of Christ who crucified for the sake of man.” Beautiful deep copper patina. Unusual composition.
